Mother’s Day Alternative Style!

Where would alternative be without moms?  Mothers have made a big impact in the alternative scene, from having songs made for them to having songs made about them… good or bad.

Love your mom?  Make a song and tribute it to her.  Hate your mom?  Write a song about how much she sucks!  There are so many mom songs out there.  Some songs are about people appreciating their moms, missing them if they have passed on, or just saying they love their moms in general.

Then there is the darker side of mom songs.  They usually refer to their mothers being bad in some way or blaming them for just about everything.

There are other types of mom songs that aren’t about the artists own mothers.  Let us not forget the “your mom is blank” songs where you fill the blank in with words like hot or mean.  Occasionally we find the “death” type songs, where the artist is basically saying goodbye to their mother as if they are dying in some way.

No matter the type of song a mother song ends up being, there is no denying that there will be people that can identify with them.  As a tribute to all mother’s out there on their day, I’ve made a list of five mother songs that rock!
