Michael Jackson Gone

Michael Jackson passed away on Thursday, June 25th 2009. To many people this was a complete shock, as not many knew he was even having heart problems. No matter what your personal take is on how he lead his life, he was a huge icon in the music industry.
I know that Michael Jackson is not technically part of alternative music, but he has had a major impact on it. Many bands have done a Jackson song as a cover, people have been heavily influenced by his music as well. I would like to take this time to honor his music as he will surely be missed.
If you aren’t familiar with his works, (that’s not really possible is it) check out Michael Jackson 25th Anniversary of Thriller. It pretty much covers some of his more famous songs. The Essential Michael Jackson
has just about everything on it from The Jackson Five
days and on.
Michael has indeed been an influence to the alternative genre. Over the years bands and artists have done covers of his songs. Chris Cornell did a cover of “Billie Jean” that was pretty good. My favorite alternative Jackson cover would have to be Fall Out Boy’s ”Beat It” because it is so awesome. Let’s not forget the possibly most notorious alternative Jackson cover by Alien Ant Farm. The cover they did was “Smooth Criminal
” which is the song that made them popular.
Michael Jackson’s music and influence will live on, hopefully his family will get a tiny bit of peace knowing that he touched so many peoples lives.
